Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
We may also link to third-party social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. We are not responsible for the processing of personal data that may occur through your use of these sites, even if you access them through a link on this website. We have no control over the privacy policies of these sites and assume no responsibility for any personally identifiable data that these sites may collect.
This website uses Google Analytics and Wordfence security software to track and analyse traffic incoming to this website. In order to maintain security, your IP address is logged by our firewall provider when you visit this site.
Who we share your data with
We do not share any personal information with third parties for marketing purposes or in any instance with exception of being required to do so by law or of the winners details in situations such as giveaways, whereby the name, address and email address may be passed on to the company I am collaboration with. By entering any giveaway, or entering personal information on this website you are agreeing to these terms.
We share your data with the following third parties for general operation of the website: our web host, Google Analytics and Wordfence security.
We also occasionally share statistical data from the information gathered by analytics with parties who wish to engage with us for blogging/writing assignments. By statistical data we mean broad statements like:
‘In April we had 10,000 website hits.’
‘Our main audience demographic is women between 20-35 years old’
This type of statistical information is generalised based on the data gleaned by Google Analytics. No specific personal data is communicated in exchanges in these instances.
You can opt-out of Google Analytics tracking at any time, should you wish to do so. This link will take you to a page where you can download an ‘opt-out’ browser addon.
How long we retain your data
Data is retained by this website until deleted by us or automatically by our security provider. Any email communications will be deleted periodically as relevant (for example if we are no longer in communication with each other etc.)
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to make any requests.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Your contact information
If you have any concerns regarding your personal data and how it is being stored/used or you would like to request and obtain your information from this website, you can do so by emailing email@example.com. For any other privacy-based requests or enquiries, you can email the same address.
How we protect your data
I am currently in the process of obtaining an SSL certificate for this website to encrypt transmissions between the user’s computer and our server. Please check this policy periodically for updates on this. We have enabled an online firewall and security software to combat hacking or malicious access of this website. The number of administrators with access to this website is kept to a minimum.
What data breach procedures we have in place
This website is currently protected by an online firewall service which tracks and blocks hacking attempts and security breaches. Should there be a breach or security issue, we are emailed immediately by the security provider. We will then assess the risk to your personal data and report any significant risks to the appropriate agencies within 72 hours. If the breach poses a high or severe risk to any individuals, their data and their rights, we will inform the individuals affected immediately and keep them updated with the steps we are taking in response to this.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
We sometimes look at the user profiles of our website visitors to see who is visiting our site, what they are reading and what kind of content they seem to most enjoy. If you do not consent to us processing your personal data in this way then you have the option to opt out of Google Analytics tracking as mentioned above, or by enabling a ‘Do Not Track’ request in your browser’s advanced settings. This may or may not work with our security provider, but is an option you have at your disposal.
This policy was updated on 23rd May 2018. Please Do check back for updates periodically.
